There is no better place to study the sculptural representation of the human figure than Rome. From classical Roman masterworks to the figures of Michelangelo and Bernini, Rome offers an incredible array of stylistic approaches to the representation of the human form.
In this workshop we will work on a figure sculpture from a live model in the studio. We will be working in plasticine over an armature. Proportional systems and their use will be explored as well as the proper use of the armature to provide structural support as well as freedom to adjust and change the composition. The use of a wide variety of tools will be covered as well as how to select the correct tool to achieve the desired effect. The use of small quickly sculpted compositional models will be included to distill the essence of the pose and transfer it to a larger piece. In addition to working from the live model, David will discuss and explain various approaches to working from different type of reference materials, from life casts to photographs.
Participants will have the opportunity to bring home the completed sculpture as a carry-on piece of luggage after the workshop.
A custom-sized wooden box will be provided for this purpose.
The workshop fee includes armature, clay and use of tools.
